About Studio Samira Nami
Samira Heidari Nami, the designer behind Studio Samira Nami, successfully completed her Master's degree in Textile Product Design at University of Applied Sciences Hamburg in 2014.
"A beautiful and individual rug does not always have to be knotted and produced in faraway countries. It should be functional and fit today's modern interior style. Moreover, it should meet the individual wishes of the customer."
Samira Heidarinami set herself the task of meeting these demands in her master's program.
Each carpet is unique and therefore one of a kind
Her professor described her work in an article: "Samira Heidarinami's reversible carpets, printed in textile printing, are an excellent example of an interplay between aspects of content and culture, craftsmanship, and an aesthetic specifically developed from them. They were created in the master's thesis called "filzquadrat 2014," which was also supervised by Renata Brink and Dr. Michaela Diener, as well as Peter de Vries." In 2015, she was nominated for the German Design Award Newcomer Prize.
Through her Persian roots and her father, who has been a carpet entrepreneur in Hamburg's Speicherstadt for 60 years, she grew up with the wonderful oriental carpets from an early age.
Oriental carpets are often perceived as overloaded in today's world and are losing popularity in the modern design world. Therefore, the idea arose to put those conservative gems in a more modern light.
Studio Samira Nami manages to breathe new life into the oriental carpet - classic values in modern design. Unlike her original, her works captivate with simplicity, two-tone color and a minimalist feel. The reversibility also gives it a functional use, through the variability and adaptability of the design to people and space.
Samira Heidarinami makes her products from 100% wool felt in her design workshop in Hamburg and uses classic screen printing to apply the colors to the textile in the characteristic way.
In all her projects functionality, simplicity and holistic design are important to her and so she also likes to realize very personal design projects of her clients in the interior field.
