About Studio Samira Nami

Samira Heidari Nami, the designer behind Studio Samira Nami, completed her Master's degree in Textile and Product Design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) in 2014.

"A beautiful and individual rug doesn't always have to be knotted and produced in faraway countries. It should be functional and fit in with today's modern furnishing style. It should also consider the customer's individual wishes."

Samira Heidari Nami set herself the task of fulfilling these requirements in her Master's degree course.

Each carpet is unique and therefore one of a kind

Her professor described her work in an article: "Samira Heidari Nami's screenprinted reversible rugs are an excellent example of an interplay of content and cultural aspects, craftsmanship and a specially developed aesthetic. They were created in the master's thesis entitled "filzquadrat", which was also supervised by Renata Brink and Dr. Michaela Diener as well as Peter de Vries." In 2015, she was a Necomer Nominee for the German Design Award and in 2022 she received a prize for the Carolina D'amico Young Talent Award.

Samira Heidari Nami manufactures her products from 100% wool felt in her design studio in Hamburg and uses classic screen printing to apply the colors to the textile.

Functionality, simplicity and holistic design are important to her in all her projects and she also likes to realize her customers' very personal design projects in the interior sector.

Thanks to her Persian roots and her father, who has been a carpet entrepreneur in Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district for 60 years, she grew up with the wonderful oriental carpets from an early age.

Nowadays, oriental carpets are often perceived as overloaded and are losing popularity in the modern design world. This is where the idea came to present these conservative gems in a more modern light.

Studio Samira Nami manages to breathe new life into the oriental rug - classic values in a modern design. Unlike the original, her works are characterized by simplicity, two-tone colors and a minimalist look. The reversibility also gives it a functional use, thanks to the variability and adaptability of the design to people and spaces.
